New Direct Flights from Canada to Guanacaste
Guanacaste’s tourism landscape is soaring to new heights! Starting December 4, 2025, Porter Airlines, one of Canada’s most celebrated carriers, will launch direct service to Guanacaste Airport (LIR) from Toronto and, for the first time ever, from Ottawa. This expansion marks Porter’s first entry into Central America and the first direct connection between Ottawa and Costa Rica.
Travelers from Toronto can now enjoy direct flights three times a week—Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays—through March 5, 2026. Ottawa’s connection begins December 13, with Wednesday and Saturday flights running through March 7. All flights will be operated on the modern Embraer E195-E2, featuring 132 seats in a comfortable 2-2 layout—no middle seats!
This development is the result of strong collaboration between Guanacaste Airport, the Costa Rican Tourism Board (ICT), and Porter Airlines, responding to surging Canadian interest in Costa Rica. With over 147,000 Canadian visitors arriving in just the first five months of 2025, demand for direct access to Guanacaste’s pristine beaches, vibrant culture, and ecological diversity has never been higher.
Porter Airlines is also redefining economy travel: guests will enjoy complimentary beer and wine, premium Canadian snacks, and a no-middle-seat cabin—making the journey to paradise as pleasant as the stay.
With Toronto already Guanacaste’s top Canadian source market, and Ottawa now added to the mix, these new routes further cement Guanacaste’s position as a top-tier winter getaway for Canadian travelers.
Pura Vida takes flight from Canada this December! Don’t miss the opportunity to welcome more of our Northern friends to your business. We can’t wait!
