TAM Travel Corporation Achieves LSQA Carbon Neutrality Certification

Hello dear friends!

As we approach the end of 2025, in great anticipation of what 2026 will be bringing – we wanted to share some fantastic news with you all. TAM Travel Corporation has achieved the LSQA Carbon Neutrality Certification, thoroughly strengthening our ever growing commitment to sustainability.

At TAM Travel Corporation, sustainability is not a trend—it is a long-standing commitment rooted in more than six decades of operating as Costa Rica’s most experienced travel company and Destination Management Company (DMC). Today, our luxury travel company in Costa Rica is proud to share an important milestone in that journey: TAM Travel Corporation has been officially recognized with the LSQA Carbon Neutrality Certification, validating our comprehensive approach to measuring, reducing, and compensating our environmental impact.

An internationally validated certification

This certification was awarded by LSQA, a globally recognized international verification and validation body, and confirms our compliance with two rigorous sustainability standards:

  • ISO 14064-1:2019 – International standard for the quantification and reporting of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions
  • INTE B5:2021 – Costa Rica’s national standard for carbon neutrality

Together, these standards ensure transparency, accuracy, and credibility in how organizations manage their carbon footprint.

Comprehensive measurement of our carbon footprint

The certification covers the full scope of TAM Travel Corporation’s operations from our office in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, including:

  • Direct emissions from our operations
  • Indirect emissions related to energy consumption
  • Significant indirect emissions, such as:
  • Employee commuting
  • Client transportation in the airport–hotel transfer category

By measuring Greenhouse Gas (GHG / GEI) emissions, TAM is able to clearly quantify its carbon footprint, identify strategic reduction opportunities, and responsibly compensate residual emissions.

Nationally recognized carbon compensation

Residual emissions are offset through officially recognized mechanisms under Costa Rica’s national framework, specifically through FONAFIFO (Fondo Nacional de Financiamiento Forestal), reinforcing our contribution to forest conservation, climate action, and national decarbonization goals.

Clear sustainability indicators

As part of our sustainability management, TAM has established concrete performance indicators for 2024, allowing us to monitor efficiency and impact across our operations:

  • Total GHG emissions (GEI): 14.95
  • GEI per airport transfer passenger (2024): 0.0037
  • GEI per client attended (2024): 0.00080
  • GEI per tour operator reservation (2024): 0.00309

These indicators not only guide internal decision-making but also reinforce accountability and continuous improvement.

Promoting responsible tourism awareness

Our environmental sustainability statement is grounded in education and awareness. Beyond measuring and compensating emissions, TAM actively promotes environmentally responsible tourism practices, encouraging our clients and partners to better understand, reduce, and compensate for the environmental impact associated with travel.

Moving forward, together

This LSQA Carbon Neutrality Certification represents another step forward in TAM Travel Corporation’s long-term vision: to deliver exceptional, luxury tours in Costa Rica while protecting the natural resources that make our country unique.

We thank our clients, partners, and collaborators for being part of this shared commitment to sustainability. Together, we continue shaping a tourism industry that is responsible, resilient, and future-focused. Here’s to a sustainable, happy new year!
